The Italian Chapter of the IEEE Robotics & Automation Society (I-RAS) sponsors or cosponsors minisymposia, awards and student competitions and continuing education workshops. It also provides valuable professional contacts, especially for engineers who may have few co-workers who are robotics or automation professionals. One becomes a member of the IEEE I-RAS Chapter when she/he joins the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.

Italian RAS chapter was established in 2000 and counts now more than 350 members. The current chair of I-RAS is Andrea Maria Zanchettin.

I-RAS has been awarded  by the "RAS Chapter of the year award", in 2006, 2008, 2013 and in 2019.
